What We Do & Why We Do It
|
![]() Warrior Creek Development is a social enterprise/ community development organization committed to the revitalization of McDowell County, West Virginia. Our mission is to inspire hope, infuse creativity, and work diligently alongside other like-minded individuals who are committed to seeing a county that is characterized by what "isn't going right" to a place where there is a clear pathway for growth and a healthier future.
We are committed to assisting with the primal components that are essential to this pursuit: quality homes and quality jobs. Braided through these two components is the third focus of our organization, quality lives. Reaching these primal needs cannot happen alone, but rather takes a community. We are committed to becoming a community contributor that helps individuals obtain a quality home, quality job, and quality life. Warrior Creek Development is modeling its program after Coalfield Development, a successful nonprofit based in Wayne, West Virginia. The signature program will be replicating Coalfield's Quality Jobs Initiative, an innovative on-the-job training mentor-ship program. As a licensed general contractor, Warrior Creek Development will employ trainees full-time to construct affordable housing, deconstruct dilapidated buildings, and re-purpose abandoned buildings. McDowell County, listed as a tier-1 distressed county, has in recent years been a place that is dominated by hopelessness, lack of housing, lack of jobs and poor quality of life. Warrior Creek Development seeks to bring forth sustainable change by creating housing, jobs and ultimately, hope. At Warrior Creek Development, we believe that a person's life is of essential worth, and the quality of that life is dependent upon a few fundamental needs each of us seek. We believe that quality lives are created and nurtured through the personal pursuit of quality homes and quality jobs. In other words, quality lives are built upon the foundation of homes where individuals feel safe physically, but also emotionally, as well as on a foundation of understanding one's purpose and worth in contributing to the larger community. Quality Lives is listed third intentionally, as we believe it is the fitting and foundation, the very life-blood of creating and sustaining quality homes and jobs. |
